AFC Food Shopping
Every other week, America's Fittest Couple makes a trip to "The Boys" market in Delray Beach, Florida. The Boys offers a wide selection of organic fruits and vegetables at a fraction of the cost of Whole Foods, and so on the Couple's weekly trips, they don't mess around during the half-hour of produce-gathering.
Going to The Boys can be stressful because there are always hoards of people there "deal-hunting" -- but this doesn't deter the Couple (or at least Jon) from finding their aggressive side in the face of surmounting competition. Thank the Lord Jon grew up in New York City and was indoctrinated with an unbounded aggressivity from a young age! It's certainly serving him well in daily rounds of a retired Florida resident.
Lyuda, in contrast, usually likes to take her time, and she is a lot more respectful of the other senior citizens shopping there. She often steps aside when another elderly patron makes his or her way in front of her to select an apple or two -- while Jon can be seen a meter or two away shoving twelve or fifteen into one of the three carts he's operating from. Yet it's worth mentioning here that Lyuda's accommodations have more to do with her natural kindness than any particular tolerance for other organic shoppers. Unfortunate is that by the time Lyuda finds her share of food to place into the carts, Jon has already stocked them to the brim with the household necessities, and so often her efforts go wasted.
While shopping at The Boys can at times be stressful, the Couple does enjoy their outings. Probably their favorite part about it all is stocking up their fridge once they get home. According to Jon, "There's no better feeling than knowing 25 pounds of organic onions are an arm-reach away."
The Couple usually buys enough food at one go to last them one or two weeks (which is made possible by their uncanny ability to "manage" this food -- understanding what goes bad quickly and what stays longer, and then structuring their eating habits accordingly).
Work to find a market in your area that sells organic produce at an affordable price. Then head directly there and have no shame.
