AFC Arrives in Barcelona
We arrived in Barcelona yesterday, and we’re staying in a beautiful apartment right on the beach. The set-up is great because -- compared to Valencia, where we were staying in the city center -- there is much more space to workout and run. I can focus all of my energy into my workouts now, not searching the streets for a gym!
I’ve been having some pain on the bottom of my foot over the course of the last month, but in the last week it's been feeling a lot better. I can finally do hard running workouts again, and I’ve been interspersing these with plyometric training and abs.
Thinking back on our time in Valencia since we've been here in Barcelona, I can’t believe I was able to find such consistency with my workouts! There really was hardly any space to do exercise outdoors -- as the Old City maintained narrow streets and tight quarters. I suppose that’s why it’s important to be in open areas -- with fields, running tracks, tennis courts, etc. – if you really want to progress physically.
Today, I joined Jon on the courts for a tennis workout. He gave me a series of exercises to complete, which included sprints, plyometrics, and core strength building. The muscles I worked on the tennis court were quite different than the workout you get in a gym, because your movements are so much less restricted. You’re not a hamster on a treadmill, or a spinner in a cycling class. Instead, you are running around as a free person! I’ve been pestering Jon to give me some more tennis lessons in the coming weeks, so hopefully he will oblige.
