The Upright Life
AFC transitioned the Homestead to a new South Florida condo this month, and have been working hard to get the place up to standard. Moving into an unfurnished apartment with only the bare necessities (bed, desk, dining room table with chairs, pots, pans, plates, forks, silverware, and organic food), the Couple soon found themselves in a most precarious situation: home, by themselves, fully satiated from a hearty, organic meal, but with nowhere to recline.
The only woodless (the dining room table and office chairs are oak) place to rest the sore buttocks – other than on the bed (AFC wanted to continue their dialogue about the “New Frontier” of nutrition: soup) – was on a yoga mat in the center of the living room. And that’s exactly where you could find Lyuda at 9:05pm on Friday night, back on the floor and wondering what kind of life she had signed up for.
Lyuda soon coined her stark reality with precision: “The Upright Life.” Lyuda may not have been familiar with an existence of this nature, but an Upright Life isn’t at all foreign to the Creating Substance founder. While operating his popular blog last year, Jon wrote a sensationalist post, “Live Like a Spartan” (the post has since been removed because of extensive backlash from Creating Substance haters), in which he advocated for a Spartan lifestyle – a lifestyle free of sofas, rocking chairs, lounge chairs, ottomans, and recliners.
As Jon has matured, he’s realized that rest and relaxation are instrumental to living a healthy, full, and fit life. Yes, “fit” is included here –- because having a sofa in your apartment is important for unwinding after a tough workout.
